The brand-new PICO OS 5.9.0 has been officially rolled out to users. According to the update logs, the main updates of PICO OS 5.9.0 include the upgrade of ‘Streaming Assistant’ to ‘PICO Interconnect’ (Beta), optimization of gesture and video player effects, and the provision of two latest SDKs for developers. PICO OS 5.9.0 primarily encompasses six areas of upgrades: The ‘PICO Game Streaming Assistant’ has been officially renamed to ‘PICO Interconnect’ (Beta).
It now supports PC/Mac desktop interconnection for the first time, allowing adjustable window sizes and positions, support for multiple monitors, and compatibility with controller and gesture operations. Even computers with lower-end configurations can utilize desktop streaming, with support for both wired and wireless connection methods. The streaming effect of SteamVR games has been further optimized, offering lower game picture latency, the ability to upscale lower-resolution images to high resolution, and personalized adjustments to game lighting. The stability, basic performance, and interaction capabilities of gestures have been optimized, with more stable gesture tracking, a significant reduction in virtual hand jittering/loss, and a noticeable improvement in ray-click experience. The PICO player provides clearer and smoother visuals. With the True Painting mode enabled, the VR video effect is enhanced for resolutions of 4K and above. The newly released PICO Avatar SDK v1. 0 allows developers to integrate the Avatar SDK, pulling in personalized avatars created by users in the Avatar Editor, and optimizing the multiplayer interaction experience in their own apps. The newly released PICO SDK v2.5 strengthens gestures, supports gesture preview (Live Preview), supports Unity’s most commonly used XR interaction framework XRI, and is compatible with Unreal 5.3 engine. For this OTA upgrade, PICO stated that it is the result of continuous product experience improvement based on user feedback, highlighting: ‘PICO Interconnect (Beta) officially launched a new feature of great user value: computer desktop streaming, which also brings a series of enhancements to the PCVR game streaming experience. PICO has higher expectations for streaming, hoping to expand into new cross-platform interconnection scenarios, providing users with a better experience of multi-device collaboration.’ PICO OS 5.9.0 will support both the PICO 4 series and PICO Neo3, and interested users can update to try it out. ‘PICO Interconnect’ (Beta) requires upgrading the system to PICO OS 5.After version 9.0, users must wait for the new system to push updates again in order to receive them. The specific update schedule will be determined by the system itself.
