From August 3rd to 6th, 2018 ChinaJoy took place as scheduled, reaffirming its status as one of the world’s four most renowned gaming expos. This year’s event continued to draw massive crowds, with over 900 exhibitors from home and abroad participating. Within just two days, nearly 200,000 attendees had entered the venue.
The VR industry, steadily progressing towards rationality and stability, remained one of the key highlights at ChinaJoy. Prominent VR brands such as Xiaomi, HTC Vive, and Pico were among the exhibitors. Pico emerged as a major focal point, having recently announced a funding round of 167.5 million USD and launched its new product, the Pico G2 VR All-in-One headset. Pico showcased its latest lifestyle-oriented VR all-in-one device, the Pico G2, which was released on July 31st, at booth S278 in Hall E4. The exhibit attracted significant attention from enthusiasts. As the second generation in the Goblin series, the Pico G2 features substantial improvements in optical display, interactive design, wearing comfort, and content resources. Equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile VR chip, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of ROM (expandable up to 256GB via storage card), the device delivers robust performance. It incorporates a custom-designed 3K high-definition fast-response display and low-distortion Fresnel optics, ensuring a clear and expansive field of view. Weighing only 268 grams for the front section, it is 40% lighter than its predecessor, improving weight distribution and facial heat dissipation for enhanced comfort. Innovatively, the Pico G2 utilizes a self-adaptive head strap that requires no adjustment, effectively distributing pressure and reducing facial load and sagging sensation. This design supports longer, more frequent, and diverse usage scenarios. With the slogan “See Clearly, Wear Lightly,” the Pico G2 aims to provide users with a lighter and clearer VR viewing and gaming experience. At ChinaJoy, Pico set up three main experience zones: VR viewing, VR gaming, and 3D model browsing. The booth maintained a simple, lifestyle-oriented aesthetic, with the viewing area uniquely designed as a living room space. The demo highlighted newly introduced features such as a giant screen cinema with real-time lighting effects, a social-focused multi-user theater, 8K high-definition video decoding, and smartphone screen mirroring. These innovations led to novel user experiences, including lying down or even simulating bathroom viewing scenarios. For gaming content, the Pico G2 supports a dual-store model (Pico Store and Viveport). The proprietary platform already offers over 100 games, with more than 100 additional titles expected to be added by the end of 2018.The on-site demonstration of “Towards the Light” originates from Pico’s proprietary platform, while full compatibility with Viveport games further enhances Pico’s VR game library.
In addition to widespread user acclaim, the Pico G2, as a representative VR all-in-one device, received the “Wearable Product Award” under the official “Black Gold Entertainment Hardware Award” at this year’s ChinaJoy and eSmart exhibitions, earning unanimous recognition from industry experts. Furthermore, the Pico G2 4K launched its first offline sale at the event. Customers purchasing the device for 1999 RMB received a complimentary gift package worth nearly 400 RMB, including a 64GB memory card, a custom G2 PU case, and JBL earphones. Enthusiasts eager to experience the Pico G2 4K are encouraged to visit Booth S278 in Hall E4 for an exclusive hands-on opportunity.
