CES Asia 2017 Showcases Pico’s Innovative VR Technology

Today, CES Asia 2017 kicked off at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. In this bustling Asian consumer electronics exhibition, 19 major categories of technological innovation products were showcased, with VR manufacturers particularly catching the eye. Pico, a domestic VR hardware brand that recently released four new products, attracted many industry professionals to visit and experience with its outstanding products and impressive booth design.
Pico’s booth design continues the theme of ‘life-oriented’, with wooden architecture creating a warm atmosphere of home and family. The life-oriented space design stands out among many high-tech exhibition areas, evoking a strong sense of closeness. A month ago, Pico’s new product launch event, with its artistic scene setting, received unanimous praise from guests. The theme ‘From Curiosity to Lifestyle’ is still fresh in everyone’s memory. At this exhibition, Pico continues this style, conveying to the industry the concept of VR entering everyday life.

This CES Asia 2017, Pico’s four new products are all on display, along with the Pico Neo CV version, a VR headset that received widespread attention at the US CES but has not yet been released. This VR headset won the ‘Innovation Award’ at CES Asia 2017. When worn, the built-in SLAM camera can model the surrounding environment in real-time, avoiding collisions with exhibition boards, and has been well-optimized for six degrees of freedom tracking based on its Inside-Out spatial positioning system, attracting a continuous stream of on-site experiencers.

Pico’s flagship product, the Pico Goblin VR headset, is also a pioneering attempt to disrupt the VR industry. It is rare for a headset under 2000 yuan to have a Snapdragon 820 processor and a high-definition screen with a resolution of 2560*1440, along with a 3DOF interactive controller that unlocks many new games. On-site experiences included Pico’s self-developed games ‘Space Flight’ and ‘Guardian’, as well as four developer games – ‘Magic’ and ‘Escape from Doomsday’ from Touch Interactive, ‘Alien Mayhem’ from Star Chess, and ‘Interstellar Smash’ from Great River Fishing. Overall, they cover various genres such as FPS, RPG, action, and strategy. The sensory experience and visual effects far exceed those of ordinary thousand-yuan headsets on the market.

It is worth mentioning that, especially for FPS first-person shooter games, playing with the 3DOF controller paired with ‘Little Monster’ is much more humanized than traditional head-turning aiming and positioning, which can be considered a significant breakthrough in the design of domestic headsets.
Pico’s spokesperson announced that more than 20 3DOF games will be launched on the ‘Little Monster’ VR headset in the coming month.

Last year’s detachable Pico Neo DK version received great acclaim, and this year’s upgraded Pico Neo DKS version lives up to expectations. Its versatile design allows visitors to experience three ways of playing VR at once – a standalone device with a controller, highly portable, and on-site experiences include the interactive game ‘Skull Sea’ by Magic Vision and ‘Lingyu’ by Interstellar Dreams. Skull Sea, a FPS+RPG game with a rich plot, has always been a mainstay for Pico Neo, while ‘Lingyu’ boasts exquisite graphics and is worth playing.

An on-site experience included a music game ‘National Dance Princess’ specially adapted by Niu Ka Interactive for this set of components. It’s easy to get started, simply by pulling the trigger on the controller to catch the various light waves emitted by the dance princess, allowing players to dance with the game’s protagonist.

The game is challenging, highly playable, and requires high accuracy from the tracking components. The Pico tracking kit’s motion capture was felt to be stable and precise on-site. The Pico U VR glasses, made of fabric material, stand out among the high-tech products displayed by many VR manufacturers. The simple design avoids complicated operation steps and protects the phone screen, earning praise from on-site experiencers for this thoughtful design.

The CES Asia 2017 exhibition continues for the next two days. Visit booth 2322 in Hall N2 of the Shanghai New International Expo Center to witness Pico’s impressive performance and feel the passion of the CES Asia industry event!
